I remember 8.10. I remember that, like the rest of the 8 series of Ubuntu, it was lousy and left much to be desired. I remembered it was SO bad I finally decided to switch to Arch.

See, a LOT of bad decisions went down in the 8 series, and then those bad decision fermented and became REALLY crappy decisions in 8.10.

One classic example and a constant thorn in my side when it comed to fixing problems Ubuntu users are having it PULSE AUDIO. The #1 stupidest idea I've EVER seen the Ubuntu devs make. Broke sound on over half the Ubuntu users' computers. They've actually picked up on a few more stupid decisions recently, like ditchign GIMP for F-Spot on the LiveCD (WHY?! If you wanted space, dump all the Mono garbage, not the best graphics app there is for Linux!) to abandoning Pidgin in favor of the bland, featureless and crappy Empathy IM client (Another regression on their part. And don't give me 'GNOME made it official' bullcrap, Ubuntu still decides their packages, and Empathy is one package, and an extra at that.

I use Arch now. I don't miss Ubuntu. Ubuntu's so inflexible, and it's gone from Linux for Human Beings to Linux for Idiots.

Great article, but dude.. What's with the layout? It makes my eyes bleed. And you should really proof-read your material before publishing it.

@Baba Lafayette

Not sure.. But upgrading would be worth a shot. The new ubuntu includes a new kernel which = new drivers. And it includes a new X server, which has better hardware support.

let us know!
